TECHNOLOGY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The world is moving away from fossil fuels and adopting cleaner, greener energy. The technology is already here to enable a smarter way to power through gardening and landscaping tasks, and we plan to continue investing in ways we can improve it.
INNOVATING FOR THE FUTURE
Traditional petrol-powered garden tools have enjoyed popularity because their performance and running costs have been favourable. In only a few years, however, EGO has proved that battery-powered garden tools are a better choice for the environment than those powered by fossil fuels.
As European and national governments force organisations to reconsider their environmental policies, the eventual elimination of petrol powered landscaping equipment is inevitable.
CLEANER, QUIETER, SAFER TECHNOLOGY
Next-generation lithium-ion batteries, like those developed by EGO, provide the only viable alternative to petrol, especially now the challenge of recycling is being addressed.
Toxic emissions are not the only environmental concern - noise pollution impacts upon human and animal health too. During tests, most of our garden tools have been shown to register fewer decibels than regulations demand.
PETROL EMISSIONS
According to the US Environment Protection Agency, in one hour of use, a new gas powered lawnmower produces the same air pollution emissions as 11 new cars. In addition, it found that each year around 17 million gallons of fuel, mainly petrol, are spilled while refueling lawn equipment – more than the Exxon Valdez disaster.
In 2011, a test measuring the emissions of a Ford v8 pickup truck and a standard 4 stroke leaf blower revealed an uncomfortable truth: a small petrol-powered leaf blower is worse for the environment than a truck with a V8 engine. The leaf blower’s tiny engine produced 6.8 times more nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide than the V8 truck’s, and 13.5 times more carbon dioxide.
A BRAND FOR THE FUTURE
EGO was founded with the simple vision of using advanced technology to develop an innovative battery tool system with multiple benefits, one of which is to minimise impact on the environment.
We’ve already proved this can be achieved without affecting performance or price. We are already in a place where battery power is surpassing petrol and we intend to be at the forefront of this journey. Our objective is to make this technology as efficient, safe, cost-effective and high-performing as possible, so the world can leave petrol in the past where it belongs.
CHALLENGE 2025 - CREATING A CLEANER, QUIETER, SAFER FUTURE
If each of us made the small change to battery powered outdoor tools, it would have a huge positive impact on our environment. Challenge 2025 is our commitment to changing the future of gardening for the better.
Our vision is that, within five years, battery power will become the principal power source for outdoor power equipment. This will lead to significant reductions in emissions and noise, while at the same time increasing safety and user comfort. We will achieve this by empowering outdoor power equipment users to move away from petrol.
Together, we will build a cleaner, quieter, safer future.
