Basic maintenance is fairly similar for all battery operated lawn mowers, whether you have a push mower or a self-propelled mower.
The EGO Z6 Zero-turn Ride-on mower has slightly different needs, but here are the essentials of lawn mower maintenance that you can do yourself. If you need the services of a qualified service technician trained to work on EGO lawn mowers, contact your nearest local dealer.
Regular mower maintenance
Not everyone looks forward to reading manuals, but they’re highly informative about mowing techniques, as well as about the different parts of your battery operated lawn mower, plus safe handling and operation.
We recommend you read it thoroughly before first operation and reread it regularly. Here are some of the highlights regarding checks and maintenance.
1. Before you turn your mower on
Always visually inspect blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance of the tool during operation. Using a lawn mower with worn or damaged parts increases the risk of injury.
Which mower parts are most at risk from damage and wear & tear?
- Grass bag components
- The discharge cover
- Side discharge chute
- Mulching insert and trailing shield
2. During lawn mower use
Switch off and remove the detachable battery pack and make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop:
- Before clearing a blockage and unclogging chute.
- Before checking, cleaning or working on the mower.
- After striking a foreign object, when you need to inspect possible damage.
- If the mower starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately).
Keeping the motor cover free of grass, leaves and debris build-up as you work will reduce the risk of fire.
3. General regular maintenance
During adjustments, be careful of trapping your fingers between moving blades and fixed parts. Be aware that blades can still be moved even though the power source is switched off!
- Keep the mower blade sharp and clean for the best and safest performance. Wear appropriate gloves and be cautious.
- Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight (but don’t over-tighten). This includes blade and motor mounting bolts.
- Check the grass catcher frequently for wear or deterioration. (Some models have a bag-full indicator).
- Replace worn or damaged parts - as soon as possible - for safety. Contact your local EGO dealer to order parts - they can also fit them.
- For rotary mowers, ensure that only replacement cutting means of the right type are used.
- Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease for safe handling.
- Don’t wash the mower with a hose pipe or similar - water will damage the motor and electrical connections.
Servicing, repair and replacement parts
- Our battery-operated lawn mowers come with warranties of up to 5 years, but they will last a lot longer than this if you care for them.
- Your local EGO lawn mower dealer can arrange a service and repair with identical replacement parts by a qualified service technician.
- If your battery is damaged, it’s important that service and repairs are only carried out by the manufacturer or authorised technician.
- Only use identical replacement parts listed in your battery operated lawn mower’s manual for best results and optimal safety – available from your local EGO dealer.
- Check safety devices are intact and in good condition, but don’t remove or tamper with them.
